The Corrales Historical Society will feature authors, publishers, journalists, and collectors, Barbe Awalt and Paul Rhetts, speaking about “New Mexico Art & Culture: Santos, Balloons, Food & History.” Owners of one of the largest book publishing companies in New Mexico and Tradicion Revista Magazine, Awalt and Rhetts have an expertise in New Mexican Hispanic santos and have taken their collection all over the country. They have recently published the award-winning official Balloon Fiesta book The World Comes To Albuquerque. Awalt and Rhetts also received the Mother Teresa Award for their furthering of New Mexico Hispanic art and culture.
The talk takes place Thursday, September 22, at 7pm, in the Old San Isidro Church – 966 Old Church Road and is free and open to the public. Awalt and Rhetts will bring some of their santos for display and some of their books for sale including the recent Contemporary Hispanic Market 25th Anniversary and the Centennial Grant book, New Mexico Biographical Histories, by Don Bullis.
