New Mexico Book Association News

NMBA ROUND TABLE GATHERING TOMORROW!

>> Happy Hour at Santa Fe Bar & Grill Thursday

Our informal New Mexico Book Association Round Table Happy Hour starts at 5:30 pm tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 20 at Santa Fe Bar & Grill in DeVargas Mall, Santa Fe. Writers, designers, publishers, publicists, librarians -- all who are involved professionally in books are welcome. No reservations needed. Just get out of the house or office and share good thoughts and good times.

>> NMBA Is Movin' on Down!
Your Association is moving downstairs to more convenient and spacious headquarters at 826 Camino del Monte Rey. Recursos' offices will occupy what had been the Writers Room, and we were offered the first floor space by Recursos Executive Director Ellen Bradbury. We are now arranging the new space for our luncheons, meetings and office on the ground floor. This change makes good sense! NMBA will have its services in one location, no stairs to climb, easier access for all members. With help (call 231-1755), we will be in by the first of September!
>> Is Your Check in the Mail for Mountains & Plains Booksellers?
Just a reminder! NMBA will be in charge of the impressive IBPA aisle at Mountains & Plains Booksellers Trade Show Sept. 24-26 in Denver. It's the top event for presenting books to booksellers in the region. We need to receive your check ($60 for one title, $20 additional titles) pronto for you to take advantage of earlybird pricing. Follow with two copies of each title and 60 copies of an 8-1/2 x 11" flyer for your page that will be bound in our MPIBA Trade Show Catalog. Send check first, then books and flyers to: New Mexico Book Association, c/o Recursos, 826 Camino del Monte Rey, Santa Fe 87505. Call (505) 231-1755 or email Richard@oceantree.com to let us know now that you're committed to the MPIBA Trade Show.
>> NMBA dues savings until September 1
You can still save a couple of bucks if you renew your NMBA membership in the next few days! Send your dues check ($60) to: NMBA, c/o Barbara Beasley Murphy, Treasurer, 486 Circle Drive, Santa Fe NM 87501. (We won't have to send an invoice and you will continue in good standing to September 2010!)
>> More News bits...
Nine NMBA authors are in the program for the Second Annual New Mexico Women Authors Book Festival, Sept. 26 on Santa Fe's Museum Hill .... Barbara Beasley Murphy, Richard Harris and Richard Polese will lead seminar discussions "Write, Publish, Thrive in the Digital Age," at the Southwest Literary Center's 2009 Writers' Conference at the Santa Fe Complex in the Railyards Oct. 9-11 ... Do you have an event you'd like to see posted on the NMBA monthly email Book Events Calendar AND in Libro's September-October print edition? We're on deadline now. Go to www.nmbook.org and put in your event info into our simple (and now mandatory) Submission Form. It's easy and assures accuracy!
Visit www.nmbook.org for ongoing events and to send us your news!

The NMBA Board meets at 12:45 pm this Friday, following the Networking Luncheon.

We discovered over the years that the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Trade Show (Sept. 24-26 in Denver) is the very best event for reaching bookstore owners directly. NEW & COMPLETELY REVISED EDITION RELEASED!
OLD WEST TRIVIA BOOK
by Don Bullis
228 pages 32 photographs; 6x9
ISBN 978-1-890689-61-2 ($17.95) (Trade paper)
The glamour and fascination of the Old West is brought to life in a new way in this interesting collection of facts and figures. Historic photographs tell stories of their own as the faces of such Old West characters as Geronimo, General Custer and the Unsinkable Molly Brown enliven the text. The scope and history of the Old West is highlighted in a way that is both factual and entertaining in this unique presentation that will appeal to anyone interested in the Old West and the people and places that made it happen. Author Don Bullis has spent his life covering the people and places of the Southwest as a small-town newspaper editor and as a deputy sheriff and town marshal. He has traveled extensively throughout the Western United States to gather the facts, figures, and photos that make up this collection.
CHECK OUT THIS BOOK HERE!

Reviewed in the July 5 issue of the Albuquerque Journal.
"Old West trivia book revels in minutiae about the good, the bad and the ugly of life on the frontier. Bullis' book covers hundreds of ... famous and infamous individuals from the Old West in chapters on soldiers, Indians, cowboys, cattlemen, politicians, and literature. There's a newly added chapter on "Movie and Television of the Old West."
