BOOK AWARDS
A couple of people seem to be a little confused. Entry in the Reading New Mexico Review Website is not connected with the Coop New Mexico Book Awards. They are separate so if you want to enter the book awards you need to do that separately from submitting books for possible review on READING NEW MEXICO.

BIG POETRY EVENT — WORDSTOCK II
There’s a big poetry event in the planning stages to be held in Albuquerque this September, starting Friday the 12th and ending on Sunday evening, the 15th. New Mexico Literary Arts (NMLA) is organizing the Wordstock II (small press showcase and trade show) aspect of it. Wordstock II will be held at the Harwood Museum all day Saturday (10-4ish). It will be very well attended, with lots of opportunity for writers, poets, and small presses to get the word out about their publications and make some sales. The emphasis of the festival is on poets and poetry, so those are the writers that should be encouraged to have their work represented. The tables are $20.00. If you are interested in a table, or know writers/poets that you think might be,Michelle Holland and she will send you a more formal invitation to register for a table, and more details about time and place and contact people. Contact Michelle at michholl@zianet.com

Gotsch Photos Accepted into Carson City Show

The Northern Nevada Railway Art Expo has accepted two black-and-white photos taken by artist Connie Gotsch of the Santa-Fe Lamy, New Mexico Spur Line for a show running July 17 to August 17 in Carson City, Nevada.
The show is a fund raiser for restoration of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, the short line connecting Carson City with Virginia City.
Gotsch says, “I’ve always gotten a kick out of the fact that Santa Fe Railroad’s main line doesn’t come anywhere near Santa Fe, and a spur connects the city to the main line at Lamy. The railroad offers tourist trips to Lamy from Santa Fe, so I took one, and found these shots.” She uses a blend of two photographic styles - shooting with small cameras to catch a moment, but with a deep appreciation for the printing techniques of Ansel Adams.
Gotsch has shown photos in the Four Corners and New Mexico for the past 18 years. Last February, she won an award for Best Two Dimensional Photo in a show entitled Faces of Women, for a black-and-white image of a woman selling soft drinks at a temple in X’ian, China. Faces of Women was put on by the Las Vegas Arts Council in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Gotsch is also a writer who has had two novels, ‘Snap Me a Future,’and ‘A Mouth Full of Shell,’ published by DLSIJ Press. She will publish a youth novel ‘Belle’s Star’ with Artemesia Publishing in 2009. apbooks.net

News from Wordharvest

Greetings!

As we prepare for our summer writing workshops, we wanted to share some good news.
One of our presenters, Sandi Ault, received a huge honor for her book Wild Indigo
Craig Johnson, who will join us in November for the Hillerman Mystery Conference, earned a cover story in Publishers Weekly and a starred review.
Also, July 1 is the deadline to submit a manuscript for the $10,0000 Hillerman Prize for first mystery. Please share this information with your writer friends.

Wild Indigo gets special Edgar
Author Sandi Ault to teach in Santa Fe and at
The Tony Hillerman Writers Conference

Sandi Ault's Wild Indigo received the Mystery Writers of America's Mary Higgins Clark Award, a special Edgar. This award sponsored by publisher Simon & Schuster is given to the book most closely written in the Mary Higgins Clark tradition. Wild Indigo received critical acclaim from media, other authors (including Tony Hillerman and C.J. Box) and fans. The novel appeared on nine bestseller lists and sold out of its first printing in less than seven days.
Sandi will teach Make it a Grand First Grand: The First 1,000 Words on Aug. 9 and will offer a pre-conference workshop on editing November 5 at the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference. Other summer workshops include screenplays, travel writing, writing for kids, and research-based prose with award-winning author Sharman Apt Russell.

Praise for Craig Johnson's new mystery
Another Man's Moccassins, Craig Johnson's fourth mystery, won a place on the cover and glowing praise from Publishers Weekly. The magazine called the book, which features Wyoming sheriff Walt Longmire, "stellar," "full of crackling dialogue," and an "absorbing tale." Johnson, currently on a multi-city book tour, will join us in November at the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference: Focus on Mystery, where he'll share tips for writing that much-praised dialog and participate in other conference events.

...if you don't watch Corner Gas (it's Canadian) you are missing the best show on TV. Rent the videos if you don't believe me. If somebody were to make a series out of Monmouth life and transplant it north of the border, it would be Corner Gas. Not only is it funny, it's charming and inventive and in its fifth season. I guess if you grow up with a name like Brent Butt (the executive producer, head writer, director, and main character) you have to be funny. My heartiest applause for this fabulous show. You can buy the videos on amazon.com or from www.cornergas.com/store. It's too good to miss. Trust me on this one.
