Ninety Contemplations in Ninety Days

by Ronald Chapman

Ozark Mountain Publishing, Inc., March 15, 2008,

ISBN# 978-1-886940-80-2, 200 pages, $13.50

“Ron Chapman has done it again! While many spiritual manuals exhort to view our lives in a different way, few give us a clear mechanism for achieving this. Here is a clear guide laid out in easy to follow day by day steps for examining your life and ultimately, transforming it. Bravo!”

--Sean Murphy, Author One Bird, One Stone: 108 American Zen Stories and The Hope Valley Hubcap King

“Clarity is an aspect of love, it is seeing clearly. Ron Chapman sees with those eyes. He pays attention as few do to the miracles around us. He tells the One Story in all its permutations as a way of drawing us closer to our heart.”

—Stephen Levine, author of Who Dies?, Gradual Awakening, Healing into Life and Death

Seeing True: Ninety Contemplations in Ninety Days is an elegantly crafted set of meditation-like vignettes based on the experiences of the author and others. Presented in a workbook format, they allow the reader to respond to simple but thought-provoking questions, the answers to which can provide insights of life changing magnitude. The contemplations, now available from Ozark Mountain Publishing, examine spiritual themes with open mindedness and curiosity to facilitate one’s ability to see with new eyes.

Seeing True: Ninety Contemplations in Ninety Days uses the Seeing True™ framework, a unique transformational philosophy and the culmination of more than twenty years of Chapman’s personal and professional experience and research, to bring greater awareness and personal freedom to those seeking personal transformation. For example, the act of forgiving can heal the most difficult relationships, so asking “What Wrongs do I Perceive?” and “How Do I Retaliate?” can take the reader beyond grievances to shared solutions. Also, with suggestions such as “Do a good deed today that you don’t want to do and let no one know about it. How does it feel?” Chapman challenges readers to examine their myths and attitudes and helps them to take practical, spiritually-infused actions, providing them with a framework on their journey of self-discovery.

About the author: An internationally recognized and accredited speaker and consultant, Chapman nurtures creative thought and action while facilitating personal and professional growth and organization and leadership development, assisting clients in deepening their awareness, changing their perceptions, and cultivating insight and understanding to allow any challenge or problem to be overcome. A self-described full-time, all-time student of human, organizational, and cultural dynamics, Chapman, through his company, Magnetic North LLC, travels throughout the United States, Europe and recently, Zimbabwe, Africa, delivering powerful keynote addresses and conducting Seeing True™ seminars, workshops. Author of What a Wonderful World and the Seeing True series of audio discs “The Way of Success in Leadership” and “The Way of Spirit,” Chapman is also a national award-winning social commentator.

Two UNM Press Authors Honored
with Western Heritage Awards

ALBUQUERQUE—The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City will honor two UNM Press authors with Western Heritage Awards at a black-tie gala on April 12th.

In the nonfiction category, Max Evans will be recognized for his book, For the Love of a Horse. In his eighty-plus years, Evans has known, owned, ridden, and been thrown by quite a number of horses. In For the Love of a Horse, the beloved western author pays homage to his favorite horses by sharing their stories and the starring roles they’ve
played in his real and literary adventures. The prolific
author of twenty-five books, Evans claims that this book—a tribute to a bygone era in American history and in his own long life—is his favorite.

Freelance writer and photographer Nancy Wood will be awarded the photography prize for her book, Eye of the West. Focusing on the Grass Roots People of Colorado, the Utes, Taos Pueblo, and homesteaders of Pie Town, New Mexico, Wood devoted nearly twenty years to capturing and cataloguing a vanishing part of the American West. These intimate portraits, achieved through Wood’s long associations with each subject, offer rare glimpses into a forgotten past.

First presented in 1961, the Western Heritage—or Wrangler—Awards celebrate and honor the legacy of those whose works in literature, music, film, and television contribute to keeping the spirit and rich heritage of the American West alive.

UNM PRESS TITLES CHOSEN AS SOUTHWEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR

ALBUQUERQUE—For thirty-one years, the Tucson-Pima County Public Library has presented the “Southwest Books of the Year,” a list of page-turners and must-reads chosen by its panel of distinguished judges. This year, of more than 250 volumes considered, the University of New Mexico Press had a Top Pick with Dagoberto Gilb’s HECHO EN TEJAS: AN ANTHOLOGY OF TEXAS MEXICAN LITERATURE. Rudolfo Anaya and Amy Cordova’s THE FIRST TORTILLA was a children’s Top Book of the Year.

A total of thirty-nine favorites were noted by the panelists. Dagoberto Gilb’s groundbreaking anthology of Texas Mexican writers, HECHO EN TEJAS was a Top Pick by being selected by three of the seven panelists as a top ten best book. Corridos, songs, poetry, prose and photos from the 1500s to the present, HECHO EN TEJAS has been reviewed in all the major Texas media, the publishing trade, and Spanish-language newspapers. It’s contributors toured the state last year, reading at community centers and universities.

“[Gilb’s] selections are educational, interesting, funny, eye opening and stirring,” muses Southwest Books of the Year panelist Margaret Guerrero.

“The 104 selections range from personal to historical, from bleak to humorous, from youthful to retrospective. It is puro Southwest,” said panelist Bill Broyles of HECHO EN TEJAS.

The Mexican folktale, THE FIRST TORTILLA, written by Albuquerque’s Rudolfo Anaya and illustrated by Amy Cordova of Taos, was chosen by children’s librarian Cathy Jacobus as one of ten children’s Top Books of the Year commending the “bold and vivid illustrations [that] beautifully complement this bilingual story.” Anaya’s latest offering is the award-winning story of a young girl who saves her hungry neighbors by harvesting the corn for her village’s first tortillas.

The Southwest Books of the Year “Notable Books” list contains books that are not Top Picks but are recommended reading nonetheless. Eleven UNM Press titles were on the Notable Books list:

CALLING ALL WOMEN AUTHORS
The Museum of New Mexico Shops is organizing the first New Mexico Women’s Book Festival on Milner Plaza on Museum Hill, Santa Fe, New Mexico; it is set for Saturday September 27, 2008. This event, modeled on the Library of Congress’ National Book Festival, held in annually in September on the mall in Washington, D.C., will celebrate the joy of reading and the creative power of New Mexico’s women writers. The festival will feature seven pavilions - “Fiction,” “Poetry,” “Mysteries and Fantasy”, “History and Biography,” “Art,” “Home and Family,” and “Children” where 70 authors will read and discuss their books and their craft in thirty minute intervals. Additionally, authors will be signing books and books will be sold by the MNMFShops during the day on Milner Plaza. Special activities, readings and educational games will be available for children and their parents. There is no fee to participate. If you are a woman author and are interested in participating email John Stafford, Director of Retail Operations, Museum of New Mexico Foundation at john@museumfoundation.org. He will be sending out applications in mid-March for all those who are interested. They will select about 70 authors to participate.
