Chama Book Fiesta Gets Grant

NEW MEXICO BOOK CO-OP AWARDED GRANT FOR THE CHAMA BOOK FIESTA

The New Mexico Book Co-op was awarded a grant of $3,897.45 by the New Mexico Humanities Council for the May, 2009, Chama Book Fiesta. The grant supports five Hispanic author/scholars who will participate in the Fiesta. In addition, the Chama Library will receive a $500 donation of new books from the New Mexico Book Co-op. The books will be Hispanic New Mexico theme books and books written by the five authors for the public’s use.

The authors are: Charlie Carrillo, Nasario Garcia, Demetria Martinez, Robert Torrez, and Ana Baca.

The Chama Book Fiesta will take place on May 29, 30, and 31 at the Chama Library, Cookin’ Books, and the Elkhorn Lodge. The five authors will speak about their experiences in New Mexico that led to their books and join many more authors who will sell signed books on Saturday, May 30, at Cookin’ Books at 10am. The panel and Book Fiesta is free to the public. The Chama Book Fiesta has also received donations from Lowes Grocery Store in Chama, Borders Books, LPD Press/Rio Grande Books, The Elkhorn Lodge, Cookin’ Books, New Mexico Tourism, and is supported by KZRM Chama Radio.
