AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR TO SIGN BOOKS
Melody Groves, winner of the 2008 New Mexico Book Award for her novel, Arizona War, signs her books at Borders Books, 10420 Coors NW, Albuquerque, on December 13, noon-2pm.
Set in 1861, Arizona War (La Frontera Publishing, 2008) brings alive frontier history when the Civil War reached deep inside the American Southwest. James Colton, fighting debilitating memories, and younger brother Andy, join the Union Army and participate in the westernmost battle of the Civil War—the Battle of Picacho Pass, south of Phoenix.
Sonoran Rage (La Frontera Publishing, 2008) chronicles the end of the Butterfield Overland Stage Lines, Cochise’s bloody uprising, and the first Battle of Apache Pass, 1860. James and older brother Trace Colton, stage drivers, stranded in the Sonoran Desert, and then captured by Cochise, struggle to survive. The US Army has other plans than to rescue them.
Melody Groves received the 2008 Parris Award from SouthWest Writers, a national writing group, for outstanding service and a large body of work. A native New Mexican, Groves is a member of the New Mexico Gunfighters Association, who performs weekly gunfights in Albuquerque’s Old Town.
