Here are some reviews:

“A stunning mystery debut by a gifted story-teller! Girl with Skirt of Stars is a head-long plunge into a mystery intertwined with the mysteries of Navajo culture and rendered in language as gorgeous as the southwestern landscape.” -- Margaret Coel, award-winning author of The Silent Spirit

“Page after page, this is breathtaking writing! Readers who loved Tony Hillerman should rejoice—Jennifer Kitchell follows in his popular tradition of suspense steeped in cultural issues with her Navajo character, Lilli Chischilly, a historic preservationist with a pile of history of her own to deal with. Kitchell’s gritty, richly-layered style is laced with humor and a hint of yearning within Lilli for better things for her heart.” -- Christine DeSmet, Author of Spirit Lake

"This meticulously-crafted debut novel weaves Navajo ethnography, sexual tension, political power, and the beauty of Grand Canyon country into a fast-paced story. Fans of Tony Hillerman will appreciate the book's reflections on Navajo culture and the physical beauty of the Southwestern US through a confident voice, adept at telling a gripping story. Yet Kitchell, a woman with deep knowledge of geology and anthropology, brings a different perspective to her well-drawn characters, especially Lilli. The novel's ending foreshadows more stories to come. I'm eager to read them."
- S. R. Carpenter, former president of the Ecological Society of America

"a must-read for fans of Native American-themed fiction. Engrossing, visually rich and irresistibly readable." --- Kirkus Discoveries

Here's a quick bio:

Jennifer Kitchell was born far from home near the Canadian border yet belonged to a Southwestern family on her mother’s side, a mother who faithfully took her children ‘home’ every year. Her interest in the Southwest and especially the Navajo culture runs to her earliest memories. She has a Ph.D. in geology, and has participated in the First Group Procession on the Ahshislepah Road in Chaco Canyon since A.D. 1128. She has won the Schuchert Prize in Paleontology and the Russel Award from the University of Michigan. She has published numerous articles in the sciences. This is her first novel because, she says, she wanted to try to give a reader an experience to live through.
