New mexico Book Co Op News

LOCAL BOOKS LISTINGS/PROFILES
NM Book Co-op has made arrangements with two newspapers to run a series of columns featuring new local books. The Albuquerque Alibi and New Mexico PrimeTime are participating.
We are looking for new books published in the last 12 months on self-help, health, religion and taxes for January and romance/love stories for February. If you have a book that fits in any of these categories and that has been published in the last 12 months (since December 2006) please send us a cover image (300 dpi jpeg, 5x6 inches), title, author name, publisher, hard or softcover, price, in what stores the book is available in New Mexico, and a max. 50-word description of the book — any entries for books outside the required pub date, with a description over 50 words, or with cover images not as 300 dpi jpegs (5x6) will not be considered for inclusion. The book listings have a maximum of 5 books, so the first five books that fit the listing themes will be accepted. Books for consideration must be received no later than Monday, Jan. 7, 2008. NEXT CO-OP MEETING — WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE BOOK AWARDS
The next Co-op meeting will be January 25 and will feature Ruthie Francis, Sabra Steinsiek, Paul Rhetts and Barbe Awalt in a discussion about what was learned from the 2007 NM Book Awards. Insights into what worked best will be covered. Also the first announcement of the criteria and schedule for the 2008 New Mexico Book Awards will be made at this meeting. The meeting begins at 11:30 and will be at the HomeTown Buffet at 9261 Coors Blvd in Albuquerque. Cost is $8.29 plus tax and tip. Email info@nmbookcoop.com to reserve a seat at the meeting.

NEW MEXICO BOOK AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The winners of the 2007 New Mexico Book Awards have been announced. The winners and finalists are posted on the Book Awards website at http://nmbookaward.com. The information on the 2008 Awards Program will be announced in the next few weeks.

MEET THE AUTHORS EVENT
Space is still available to participate in the Meet the Author Book Fair.
The NM Book Co-op is working with the Holy Ghost School in Albuquerque to organize a Meet the Author Book Fair event on Sat. March 8 from 10-5pm in celebration of the opening of the their new school library. Authors and publishers can sell books and have book signings. Organizers are also looking for book covers/jackets to display (they will not be returned) — mail covers/jackets to NM Book Coop at 925 Salamanca NW, Los Ranchos, NM 87107 no later than January 15. IN MEMORIUM
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Thornton, author of A CAT NAMED FISH AND A FISH NAMED CAT. He passed away on December 19. Wayne had been a member of the NM Book Co-op since 2006 and participated in the 2007 Book Awards. He was buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

WEBSITE COMPLETELY REVAMPED
The New Mexico Book Co-op website ( http://nmbookcoop.com/) and the New Mexico Book Awards website ( http://nmbookaward.com) have been completely re-designed to make them easier to navigate as well as easier to keep up-to-date. You will find lots of new information on the website of help to Co-op participants in promoting and selling local books. You will notice that the Co-op Marketplace has been completely redone (well almost — it will be finished in a few days).
