NEW MEXICO BOOK AWARDS DONATES BOOKS TO TEN LIBRARIES & LITERACY PROJECTS Thousands of dollars of books donated

The New Mexico Book Awards and the New Mexico Book Co-op has donated to ten libraries in New Mexico. The New Mexico State Library, Santa Fe Public Library, Rio Rancho Public Library, South Broadway Library part of the Albuquerque/Bernalillo Library System, Placitas Community Library, El Rito Library, Portales Library and Abiquiu Library were given thousands of dollars of new books. The literacy programs READWEST and Silver City Literacy Link-Leamos were also given books.

The books were part of the 2007 New Mexico Book Awards. Entries were judged and the three books for each entry were donated when the competition was over. Rather than throw out the books, they were donated to programs that requested books or could use them the most. Books were also given to judges who requested certain books.

A complete set of the winning books are housed at both the New Mexico State Library and Rio Rancho Public Library. The State Library is lending the display to other libraries. Rio Rancho is lending the books to happy readers.
