I'm very pleased to announce that "Land Beyond Maps has won the Arizona Book Publishing Association Award in the Gay/Lesbian category. It was also a Finalist in the Multicultural category. The website is http://azbookpub.com/onews/aba-2010-winners/

"Land Beyond Maps is a Finalist for two more awards:
- Lambda Literary Foundation "Lammy" in the Lesbian Debut category, which will be announced May 27.
- Golden Crown Literary Society in the "Dramatic General Fiction" category, which will be announced June 5.

Also, with the confidence of all these awards, I am going to try to fulfill a lifelong dream by applying for residencies at the MacDowell and Yaddo colonies. The applications require reference letters from people with high credibility in literature or writing or with generally high professional standing, and who also know me or would be willing to get to know me well enough to attest that I would be "temperamentally suitable" to stay at a writer's residency. If you feel you are appropriate and would be willing to write the reference, or if you can suggest someone, please let me know.

Our goals are to support and strengthen quality lesbian literature by providing places for readers and writers to interact, to encourage and assist new writers and established authors, and to recognize and promote lesbian work."

My publisher has set up a Savvy Press website and a Savvy Press Facebook page. I hope you'll take a look and learn about all the other great books from Savvy Press and Gowanus Books. I'm so honored to be in the company of Savvy's other writers. I'm not a mystery fan, but I couldn't put Ellen Larson's "New Jersey mystery books" down, and her "Measure of the Universe" is a great read about a future time when people have forgotten how they used to communicate with written text - very timely! Thomas Hubschman's "Look At Me Now," actually succeeds as a feminist novel written by a man but in a woman's voice. Gowanus Books has two exciting anthologies of writing by people from all over the developing world - voices rarely read in the US. Take a look and see the good company that "Land Beyond Maps" is in!

Thanks for all your support and encouragement. My next novel, also about women in New Mexico in the 1920s, is moving along. The writing is almost done. I'll be sure to let you know when it is published.
